Cradle Of Tibet civilisation

Tsedang

HIGHLIGHT
Tsedang is often called the “Cradle of Tibetan Civilization,” and its highlights are a deep dive into the very origins of Tibetan culture, religion, and royalty . Unlike the bustling pilgrimage hub of Lhasa, Tsedang offers a more serene atmosphere where you can explore the country’s most ancient sites in the beautiful Yarlung Valley.

Tsedang

Cradle of Tibetan Civilisation

Visiting Tsedang offers a unique and profound experience that complements—and in some ways surpasses—a trip to Lhasa. While Lhasa is the political and spiritual heart of Tibet, Tsedang is its historical soul.
Tsedang is the cradle of the Yarlung Valley, where the Tibetan people originated. Nowhere else can you see so many "firsts" in one place:
The First Palace: Yumbulakhang (Tibet's oldest building, over 2,000 years old).
The First Monastery: Samye (the first Buddhist monastery ever built in Tibet).
The First King: The tombs of the first Tibetan King, Nyatri Tsenpo, are located here.
The First Farmland: The surrounding valley is said to contain the first plot of cultivated land in Tibet.

Lhasa can feel busy and commercialized. Tsedang offers a rural, authentic Tibetan experience. The Yarlung Valley is fertile and quiet, with nomadic herders, farmland, and fewer tourists. You can often visit major sites like the Tombs of the Tibetan Kings or Yumbulakhang with very few other people around, allowing for a more meditative and personal experience.
