Mount Everest, known in Tibetan as Qomolangma (meaning "Goddess Mother of the World"), is the world's highest peak, standing on the border between the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and Nepal . Its Tibetan name reflects its deep cultural and spiritual significance to the local people .

📍 Geography and Elevation
The mountain is located at approximately 27°59′ N, 86°56′ E, with its northern slope in Tingri County, Tibet . Its elevation has been precisely measured at 8,848.86 meters above sea level, a figure most recently confirmed by a Chinese survey in 2020 . The summit is often referred to as one of the “poles” of the Earth, and its peak is so high it reaches the lower limits of the jet stream .

Explore Tibet's historic capital Lhasa

Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwestern China, sits at an elevation of about 3,650 meters on the "roof of the world" and is known as the "City of Sunlight" for its abundant annual sunshine. Founded as a political center in the 7th century by Emperor Songtsen Gampo, the city is the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism, home to iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Potala Palace (the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama), the sacred Jokhang Temple, and the surrounding Barkhor pilgrimage circuit.

Travel through the winding road to Everest Base Camp

We will turn off the Friendship Highway and take the Zhufeng Road over the Gawu La Pass (5250m) from which you get an amazing view of the Himalayan panorama. The view of the peaks includes several mountains above 8000 meters including Mount Everest (8848m) Mt. Lhotse (8516m) Mt. Makalu (8463m) Mt. Shishapangma (8020m) and Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m).
